PBSMR Science 2014

The MOE (Malaysia) has announced that the national-based Science exam, PMR, will be replaced by an 'enhanced' version of a Central Assessment, called Pentaksiran Berasaskan Sekolah Menengah Rendah (PBSMR).

I have gathered some feedback from science teachers who had recently attended the PBSMR workshop. According to them, the format for PBSMR Science 2014 will have the following specifications:

Duration: 2 hours

Main components:

  • 50% HOTS questions (see sample attached)
  • 30% Objective questions (MCQ, T/F, Fill in the gaps)
  • 20% Structured questions (open-ended, practical-based question)
The Practical Assessment (PEKA) will not be assessed as a separate component, but will be integrated in the Performance Standard Document (DSP), i.e. bands 4, 5 and 6.

Best wishes to all students who will be sitting for PBSMR Science in 2014.

Cheers. CK
